There’s something magical about sunrises over the ocean. It’s just something incredible about seeing the long vast horizon of ocean ahead of you, and a perfect sphere of light and heat, rising and meeting you right in your soul. It’s one of my favorite things about being a Tybee Island Wedding Photographer – sharing that experience with our friends and clients. If you’ve read my blog before, you’ve probably noticed I’m a huge fan of sunrise engagement photo sessions – and this one was amazing.
I won’t pretend – I’m probably more of a sunset guy, personally. I prefer to watch the sky change into radical oranges and pinks and end a long day with a spectacular light show. But every chance I get to be a Tybee Island Wedding Photographer and see the Island through a new set of eyes, I learn to love the sunrise a little more.
There’s something refreshing about starting the day, getting to the sand, and hearing the roar of the ocean, long before most are even awake. To be one of the first to see the new day’s sun and have a fresh opportunity to do something incredible with your day. And this photo session was definitely something incredible.
Brittany and Collin are from out of town, but fell in love in Savannah. Because of a crazy flight schedule (and some delays!) these two met, bonded, and have been together ever since. It only made sense to have some engagement photos done where it all began – Savannah, GA and Savannah’s closest beach – Tybee Island. The three of us met on the southern tip and all watched the sunrise together. Afterwards we drove into downtown and shot around the popular Forsyth Park, too!
We obviously had an absolute BLAST at this session, and I’m so happy to share some of these images with you today! If you’d like to talk about your engagement photo session – don’t hesitate to contact me! Or if you’d like to download our free, 13 page Engagement Session Guide, you can download that here! It’s full of all sorts of great tips on what to wear, where to go, and a few other answers to questions you probably didn’t even know you had!
Be sure to leave Brittany and Collin some love in the comments below!! Enjoy!

I adore the close up portrait with the sweet couple looking straight at you. A perfect balance of posed yet so natural- I find that so hard to do sometimes with couples – just beautiful. The lighting is also wonderful, well worth the early rise!
Bud Johnson Rocks Couples Photography. His other works are also amazing but he so plainly enjoys shooting weddings and all that they entail – sweet looking kids, beautiful brides, amazing venues across the world and countless faces of people who somehow appear wonderous. I get his love of couples pics…just wish I knew something of his secret. OK, breathtaking talent, creative brilliance, unerring timing, and a very deep knowledge bench of vast experience and real ability, well yea, that’s gotta help, plus which the guy’s got a genius way with people. Can you tell? I love BudJohnsonPhotography.
